NECK & BACK INJURIES

On Behalf of | Apr 10, 2015 | Personal Injury

Neck and back injuries are among the most common injuries. They can result from a fall or from a motor vehicle accident or other causes. These may go undetected at first, but may later become disabling. Some of the most common injuries we have seen include the following

• Herniated Discs (also referred to as slipped or ruptured discs)

• Bulging discs (also referred to as protruding discs)

• Radiculopathy;

• Spinal Fractures;

• Spinal Tendinosis:

• Aggravation of Preexisting Spinal Conditions (such as arthritis).

Our clients have experienced the following symptoms, among others:

• Pain in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine;

• Limitation of motion;

• Tingling and numbness radiating from the neck and lower back;

• Bowel or bladder dysfunction

The most common tests to detect neck and back injuries include MRI, or CT Scans. X-rays will show structural injuries of the spine, narrowing of the spine and fractures. X-rays, however, will not show herniated or bulging discs.

A herniated disc occurs when the gel like center of the disc ruptures or pushes out of the disc’s exterior, similar to the filling being squeezed out of a jelly donut. Those injured will usually undergo conservative treatment, which may include medication, physical therapy and epidural injections. For those who have undergone conservative treatment and still experience severe pain and limitations, surgery (discectomy) may be considered as an option.
