New York crash kills 3

On Behalf of | Dec 29, 2014 | Car Accidents

On the morning of Dec. 16, a three-vehicle car accident in New York caused the deaths of three people. The state police stated that the crash, which occurred at approximately 10:49 a.m., took place at the state Route 14 and Bostwick Road intersection.

The report stated that one of the vehicles involved was traveling west on Bostwick Road when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle collided with an SUV that was traveling north on Route 14. The impact caused the SUV to slam into a pickup truck that was on traveling in the opposite direction on Route 14.

Two of the passengers who were in the SUV and the driver of the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the accident scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. It appeared that the driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any injuries. The authorities were still investigating the accident when the report was released. It was unknown if authorities planned to charge the driver who caused the fatal car crash.

When a person gets behind the wheel of a vehicle in the state of New York, they are responsible for following all of the traffic laws. If they fail to stop at a stop sign or traffic light and they cause a fatal car accident, the loved ones of the deceased person could file a claim for wrongful death against the liable driver. A wrongful death claim allows the family to seek compensation for their losses, which, depending on their relationship to the deceased person, can include the cost of medical bills, funeral expenses, loss of income and loss of companionship.
