Head-on collision in New York injures 4, kills 1

On Behalf of | Sep 2, 2014 | Car Accidents

An fiery accident in Colchester killed one person and injured four others, according to authorities. Reportedly, the August 21 crash happened at about 10 a.m. on Cat Hollow Road.

Authorities reported that a 48-year-old man was behind the wheel of a southbound Isuzu Amigo that collided head-on with a northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. Purportedly, the Jeep was carrying four people, ages 30, 34 19 and 21, and traveling on the wrong side of the road at the time of the incident.

Officials declared the 48-year-old driver of the Isuzu dead at the scene of the crash. The four occupants of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and were transported to Harris Hospital in Liberty. They were later transported to Westchester Medical Center, authorities reported.

It was not clear in the immediate aftermath of the incident whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. Nor were there any charges filed immediately after the event. However, law enforcement officials indicated that the accident remains under investigation.

If further investigation into this car accident were to yield evidence indicating that one of the drivers was at fault due to negligence, then the people who suffered damages as a result of the incident may wish to pursue civil action. For example, injured victims may retain a personal injury attorney and file suit against the negligent driver.

In this way, accident victims may seek financial compensation for the economic losses they suffered in association with their injuries. For example, they may seek restitution for hospital bills, various medical costs and certain expenses related to rehabilitation and physical therapy. They may also seek compensation for lost wages if their injuries proved to be disabling.
