New York drivers may be taking in their vehicles for needed repairs if they are part of one of several new recalls. Kia, Toyota and Porsche are part of the latest recalls aimed to prevent car accidents from occurring due to various defects.
The Kia recall is for 80,000 Sedona minivans that might experience steering failure due to a problem with the front control arms. These parts could rust and ultimately break, causing the vehicle’s driver to lose control. The affected vehicles are 2006 to 2012 models. At the time of publication, Kia reported that it had not learned of any accidents associated with the problem. However, multiple owners filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reporting that they lost control of their vehicles because of a control arm failure. The recall is for vehicles that were sold or registered in New York, 19 other states and the District of Columbia. These locations are considered to be areas where the problem is more likely to occur.
Toyota is recalling almost 10,000 vehicles due to an electrical short that could cause a failure of the windshield wiper motor. The affected vehicles are 2013 and 2014 Camry models, 2013 and 2014 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid models and the 2014 Corolla. Additionally, Porsche is recalling about 300 vehicles as part of two separate recalls. One recall is due to a potential fuel sensor inaccurate reading, and the other is for a defective wiring harness that could prevent an air bag from properly deploying in case of a collision.
If a defective auto part is to blame for an accident, a victim may decide to file a personal injury lawsuit. Through such a claim, a victim may be able to receive compensation for damages that he or she sustained, such as lost wages and medical expenses.
